Star Studded Night of Brass in Macclesfield
Macclesfield Youth Brass Band’s Spring concert turned out to be a quite remarkable event lat Saturday at Macclesfield Academy.  International tuba quartet Tubalate were special guests, virtuoso trumpet player Rex Richardson also dropped in and the youth band had the privilege of performing the English premiere of a piece by highly regarded composer Lucy Pankhurst.
All of this in addition to high quality performances by the 120 
young musicians in MYBB’s three bands and drum corps.
International tuba quartet Tubalate gave a workshop in the afternoon for band members and then wowed the capacity audience in the evening with their performance which included a fantastic rendition of Andy Scott’s Bite the Bullet.
World famous trumpeter Rex Richardson dropped in as a last minute surprise and delivered some impressive improvisation to add to theband’s rendition of Birdland.
The finale for the evening was the English premiere of Spirit of the Flame with highly regarded composer, Lucy Pankhurst sat on the front row to hear a confident performance that really put a smile on her face.
MYBB Musical Director said: “This was a night to remember. Lots of fun and some really impressive performances. There was a real buzz amongst the bands and audience. It has given me one problem though, how to top it next year!” 
The Youth Band will be performing at the Love Music Trust Summer Celebration Concert at Gawsworth Hall on Sunday 14th July at 7.30pm. The concert also features Lions Youth and Fodens Youth.
