Macclesfield Youth Brass Band’s principal cornet player George Wright has won the prize for the Best Junior Cornet Player at the Staleybridge contest during the recent Whit Friday Marches. He was presented with a shield at a concert in aid of the Martyn DonaldsonMusic Trust at Macclesfield Methodist Church last week.
George, who is a pupil at Tytherington High School, impressed the judges with his solo contributions. The band performed at 10 contest venues in the Tameside and Saddleworth areas during the eveningand came away with a hat full of prizes including winning the overall junior section prize at Stalybridge. The band was also awarded a deportment prize much to the delight of the MYBB drum corps who enjoyed their first Whit Friday outing.
MYBB Musical Director said: “Well done George, he is a very talented and confident musician who is really developing in his role as principal cornet of the band. Of course, playing in a band is a team effort and so the rest of the band deserves great credit for their hard work too.”
The band has enjoyed a very busy summer schedule which will culminate in a concert tour to Valkenburg in Holland at the end of July.
